The Electric Vehicle Market-what’s happening?

The EV Market-what’s happening?

There is a LOT going on in the EV (Electric Vehicle) arena at the moment!

Rapid strides are being made on all fronts as manufacturers vie to bring better, quicker, further ranging and more affordable options to the market!

And while there is clearly still a fair way to go before EVs will be viewed as a viable solution for everyone, they are certainly gaining acceptance, and there are some interesting possibilities among an ever-widening range of alternatives.

There needs to be an increasing recognition and trust among road users, as the clock ticks down to 2030 and the outright ban in the UK of all new petrol and diesel vehicles.

Just as there needs to be an increased commitment by those leading the way in the industry, allied with governmental bodies, to find ways of improving the entire infrastructure faster so that by the end of the decade the entire EV package is not just an attractive alternative, but the only rational way forward for the discerning motorist.

Here we look at what is leading the way in a range of categories in the “car (+)” sector, as we consider what might just pique the interest of the most ardent petrolhead!

The Fastest EV Production Car

Rimac Nevera

Image: Car throttle

Croatian marque Rimac has launched a limited-edition production car that boasts a set of astonishing performance stats.

·       0-60 in 1.85 seconds!

·       0-100 in 4.3 seconds!

·       186mph at 9.3 seconds of flat-out acceleration!

·       Top speed 260mph!

It makes one’s eyes water (and neck muscle tense anticipatively) just thinking about numbers like that!

With only 150 scheduled to be rolled off the production line and at a basic cost of £1.7million, it’s not the sort of vehicle that will be clogging up the main arteries into London in rush hour!

Nevertheless, the Nevera’s capabilities are jaw-dropping and must auger well for the future of EV performance potency.

Check out the YouTube video below to watch the Nevera absolutely pulverize a Porshe Taycan and a BMW M5 in a drag race!!!!

And just look at this!!!

An old classic reimagined!

 The Future

Although there is still a long way to go, it’s clear that the future is looking very promising on the EV front.

We need the shift from ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicles to EVs to gather increasing momentum, however, as figures from 2021 are still stark!
